Friday afternoon (post blind panic)

I thought I knew better than this.  I have a hard deadline to get the final feature of this TV dll ready for sunday (it’s live TV… that’s possibly the hardest deadline I can think of) and this afternoon is the last time before then that the Matrox support team will be able to respond to my queries about their rather mysterious libraries.

So I was following some thread in which someone had a similar problem to mine and it was suggested he should reinstall the card drivers.

I would never EVER EVER do that without incredibly specific orders from the support team on a project which has to be ready in 36 hours time.  I would NEVER do it.  Rule number one pretty much is DON’T MESS WITH YOUR COMPILE ENVIRONMENT.  I would never do it.

I, unthinkingly, did it.

And the reinstall didn’t work.

An hour of incredibly stress later, and I managed to find the right drivers from another hard drive.  I’d say “lesson learned” except I ALREADY LEARNED THAT LESSON WHEN I WAS TWELVE.  I’m annoyed with myself.

So, while I eagerly await a response from the Canadian support team I’m blogging, and hoping they haven’t gone to lunch.

You know Harry Potter.  Reading Harry Potter isn’t so much like reading other books.  Something about it just flows in this way that you just have to continually consume it until it’s finished.  You read it at a less concious level than other books.  It’s like eating an entire packet or Oreos, it’s subconcious and it’s good.

Well, Infoquake and it’s sequel Multireal are the same for me.  I can’t recommend it enough – go buy Infoquake now.

I read an interview with the designer on Hinterland last night which caused me to immediately buy it.  He’s talking about some of the stuff I’m doing with Synapse and I’m very interested to see if it comes off.  I passed out before it had downloaded so I’m looking forward to playing it tonight.
