updates

I posted yesterday on ModDB with some thoughts about the current state of game marketing.  I’ve also added something today which shall be up later.  Go see.

Because we hit our 500 fan milestone on Facebook a while back, I released a little mix of lo-fi chiptune stuff taken from my old Isometric Dancefloor EP.  You can grab that here.

We now have a Formspring, which is just another way of asking us inane questions.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, things are very tough at the moment as all of our PR got nuked by coverage emerging from E3.  We hope to bring the game back to people’s attention soon, but for now it would really help us out a lot if you would be able to keep mentioning the game to other people.

And now, prepare to be HEARTWARMED…

During the huge Microsoft press conference, at which there was some talk of family gaming, I received an email informing me that someone had bought our game because his son had told him about it!  I love this: I used to play computer games with my Dad when I was younger and this brought back happy memories for me.   Big companies spout a lot of old arse about how their games are “social experiences” and “bring people together” but we really, really, really appreciate it when people have a good time with our game, particularly at LAN parties or just with a couple of mates.  Those are the experiences we LOVE to have with games and the idea that we’re creating those for other people is deeply motivating.

Totally agree! Even though I’m very into games and am starting to create them myself (one man team at the moment!) I don’t enjoy playing them, even the social ones, without people I know. There’s nothing like getting into a game with a group of friends, or having a lan party that can be replicated by facebook/mmo/etc. socially labeled games. Frozen synapse does a good job of getting the “hey let’s play a game” with your bud feel.

Glad to hear the news is spreading, even to getting into Microsoft’s events. Long term, Word of mouth > major $$ marketing!

  2. Paul:

Yep, it’s good that Frozen Synapse suits that situation.

“…even to getting into Microsoft’s events”

Er, not quite! I just got the email DURING the time it was happening, we were not in there waving our arms frantically at a tiger, sadly.

Immediately after asking our community to help out I saw some word-of-mouth sales, which is really heartening – thanks guys.

Saw this at RPS and was wondering whether if you’d seen it already:

Haha. Personally I thought your PR was OK (if it wasn’t I wouldn’t have heard of the game otherwise), but that you guys could use some help reaching more people.

If I were to make a suggest regarding future trailer releases, you’ve got some awesome music, I think throwing in some good soundwork would help give everything a greater sense of impact. I realise all the in-game sound is currently placeholder, so I don’t know how feasible that is at this stage.

In that regard, what way are you guys planning on taking the sound direction in general? And for things like hit-impact? Are we going to be hearing human voices coming from these characters, or is it going to be more of a take on computer generated sounds to fit with the rest of the visuals? Personally I think the latter might fit better if done properly.
