Match List Now Available for UK1
Hi all! My name is James and I’m the new Mode 7 employee. One of my first jobs has been the creation of a system that automatically generates a list of all complete matches played on the server and then publishes that list to the web. I believe that system is now ready for a public test. Currently it’s limited to matches on UK1 and UK2. We’ll see how that goes before rolling it out to all servers.
It’s usually regenerated at about 9am GMT (today was an exception) but please wait until at least 9:30 to allow it time to upload to our web server. Also try and imagine that if you all download it at the same time that could end up making it pretty slow for everyone.
The files are available at http://mode7games.com/fsmatchlist/uk1/fsMatchList.csv.gz (~8MB) and http://mode7games.com/fsmatchlist/uk2/fsMatchList.csv.gz (~2MB).
You can email me any questions or suggestions you might have using jimmeh@<this domain> or I’ll answer them directly in the comments below.
We’re excited to see what you guys come up with!

Why would we want to do this ?
I don’t remember anyone suggesting this feature.

“We’re excited to see what you guys come up with!”
This doesn’t help us, but making the important FS improvements will do.

Wow guys, really? James is probably going to be the one to make all your feature dreams come true and this is his welcome? I bet he’s super motivated now. /white knighting
Hi James! As you can see, the community has become quite caustic, and you have a long road ahead if you plan to begin polishing up Frozen Synapse. I’m not that in tune with the community, but from skimming the forums and wiki, it seems that mode7 doesn’t show much awareness to feature requests or balance issues, with threads devolving into complaints about communicating with mode7.
I visit this site because I like reading about indie development, but I must confess, reading about getting the interface working on the ipad would be more interesting if mode7 had the interface running smoothly on the PC. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current interface were shown to double the time it takes to finish a difficult turn, and the large thread on the forums seems to confirm my suspicions.
I personally think the best solution would just be more communication. Talking on the forums or here about the changes that the players want, even or especially if you don’t agree, would give them something to work with. I don’t think anyone’s under the delusion that coding is easy and quick, but saying that you are going to work on a mysterious new feature and then disappearing for a few months is not reassuring. It also ignores the biggest resource you can have, the community.
/ignorant rant
Anyway, that data looks neat, although I thought everything was going to be condensed to the UK1 server. It also seems to be missing some important info, like starting units and such. What do you hope players will do with this data?

@woundless if James was the new lead developer then our dreams would have hope.
